2025 Chicago Women in Architecture Making Waves Awardee

The Making Waves Award recognizes early-career architects who have had an impact through an innovative project or initiative. The 2025 Making Waves Awardee is Kristin Jones, PhD, RA.

Kristin Jones is founder and principal at Studio Integra, Ltd., a minority-and-woman-owned small business and licensed professional design firm.  Her company specializes in residential, commercial and education projects, both new construction and adaptive reuse, primarily in the Chicago-metro area. Prior to founding Studio Integra, she led projects in these market sectors at OWP/P (now Cannon Design), DeStefano + Partners, and Holabird and Root. 

Jones is also an adjunct professor in the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology where she is a board member of the Mies van der Rohe Society. After completing her doctorate in architecture, she continued her research on transformative architectural education and topics related to Mies’ educational legacy such as visual training, city and regional planning, and long span architecture, expanding her focus to include marginalized voices in architecture. Her research has been exhibited in S.R. Crown Hall and published in international peer-reviewed journals and scientific publications such as ARCC Journal, Enquiry, The Plan Journal, and Springer Nature.  She has two forthcoming books to be published by Routledge— a co-edited book on silent collaborators in architecture and a single-author book on aesthetics in architectural education, as well as a catalog for the 1×1 Chicago: Celebrating Women in Architecture event and exhibition.
