ARE Study Initiative

Made possible by a founding gift from Roula Alakiotou, FAIA, who serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Women in Architecture Foundation (CWAF), this program offers resources and support to increase the number of women who complete the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Resources are available to all Chicago Women in Architecture (CWA) members.

Statistically, women do not take the exams in the same proportion as male colleagues; together, CWAF and CWA are committed to doing everything possible to close the gender gap within licensure—and the field of architecture at large. Through partnership with the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, the non-circulating ARE study materials are housed in the grantee library and are available for CWA members to reserve for on-site access.

CWA members may log in to their account to learn more about the program and materials. Details about registration and future cohort initiatives will be posted to the membership portal whenever feasible. Email info@cwarch.org for more information.
